Sometimes a player wants an instrument that couldn't exist any other way: a specific silhouette taken somewhere new, a finish technique that can't be replicated, a combination of materials selected for one player's sound. That's a custom build.
The Process
Every custom build starts with a conversation about what you play, what you're after tonally, and how an instrument should feel in your hands. There are no off-the-shelf options and no catalog to browse.
From that conversation, we develop the specification together. Woods, hardware, finish approach, and electronics are all chosen in the context of the whole instrument.
Pricing
Custom builds are priced by scope. Call or email to describe what you have in mind, and we'll tell you what's possible and what it involves.
(402) 317-6942The Standard
A custom build from Artifact begins with raw materials selected for the specific instrument, and is constructed to the same standard as the instruments we sign our name to.
That means hand-carved neck profiles, immaculate fretwork, finish techniques that can't be replicated by a production line, and extreme selectivity at every stage. If a material doesn't make the cut, we find one that does.
The custom build scope ranges from a modified silhouette with custom finish to a complete ground-up instrument built to your specification. We'll tell you honestly what's achievable and what the work involves before anything is agreed to.
Past Builds
Custom Electric
A familiar silhouette taken somewhere new, built around exceptional materials and a finish technique that can't be replicated. The cracked milk paint finish on the body was developed specifically for this instrument.
One-Off Commission
A client brought in his own hippo tooth blank and asked to have it cut and fitted to his instrument. Working a customer's material to final shape demands extra care: there is no second blank if something goes wrong.
Scope
Ground-up builds to your specification. Body shape, wood selection, neck profile, hardware, finish, and electronics are all chosen together. The result is an instrument that couldn't exist any other way.
A familiar shape, Jazzmaster or Telecaster or offset, taken somewhere new. Custom woods, non-production finish techniques, hardware upgrades, and fretwork to a standard production guitars never see.
One-off nuts, saddles, and hardware fitted from unusual materials. Pickguards, covers, and hardware refinished or replaced. Elements of an existing instrument reimagined without rebuilding the whole thing.
